The California Native Garden Foundation promotes gardening of native plants in California and increasing the popularity of their use in garden design. CNGF seeks to bring us closer to our natural environment, the plant community in which we live. There are twelve plant communities in California, each with its own adaptations and uses. Click a link for a description, pictures, and plants endemic to the community. The goal of CNGF is to promote gardening with native plants and to bring their under-utilized beauty to home gardens and the designed landscape. CNGF awards native garden grants to local schools and public museums. Winning applicants must have a group of committed volunteers and teachers organized to implement the garden plan and to serve as long-term stewards. In addition to providing the garden design, CNGF works with the school team to build the garden and provides additional volunteers for the stewardship program.
