Cherry Blossom Festival Time.  From March 28th through April 12th a tradition that began with a gift from Japan in 1912, Washington, D.C. will celebrate The National Cherry Blossom Festival ( Prunus x yedoensis).  Their website gives the timing of the bud stages of the trees since the 1990s.    Weatherwise the bloom period starts when Mother Nature happens to let 20 % of the blossoms open and ends when the petals fall and the leaves appear.  The beauty centers around the Thomas Jefferson Memorial on the Tidal Basin.  For further info about all the Festival activities go to: Take Part in DC's Signature Springtime Event 2009 National Cherry Blossom Festival: March 28 - April 12; Parade on April 4.

  1. I love your blog. The photos are beautiful and the articles so helpful. I can’t wait to see what you are going to do next, or where you are going to go so you can bring us back personal information on your visit. Thank you.

  2. Vickery, many thanks for writing. Did you know that Philadelphia (see post 3/31 2009 Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival in Greater Philadelphia), Brooklyn, NY and Essex County, New Jersey’s cherry blossom festivals are all coming up and that Macon, GA’s 500 mile long trees of cherry blossoms just happened last week. Will post more pictures soon. Carlisle
