Powerscourt Italian Gardens
Powerscourt, Ireland is one of the 36 "Great Gardens of the Western World", writes Peter Coats, in his book of the same title originally published in 1963 by George Weidenfeld & Nicolson Ltd. and later published in 1968 by The Hamlin Publishing Group, Ltd., London. "Some miles south of Dublin on the lower slopes of Wicklow Mountains, lies the demesne - lovely Irish word - of Powerscourt," writes Harold Nicholson in his forward to the book. "Its magnificent situation recalls Bodnant (in Wales); some of its statues prancing Pegasis especially, remind the visitor of the Parnassus in the Garden of Veitshochheim (near Wurzburg) and urns that beautify the terrace at Powerscourt were modeled on those at Bagatelle (near Paris). More to come of this lovely Irish garden tomorrow.... www.powerscourt.ie
